On this day: my life changed forever

On this day: my life changed forever

Fifteen years ago today I awoke in the Prince Charles hospital in Brisbane Australia. On this day: my life changed forever…

I received 2 artificial valves. They tick away consistently. I don’t hear them much now. Just occasionally if I lean on my hand and create a sea shell shape I can hear the blood rushing through my system and the clear ticking of the heart valves pumping my life through….

I had previously received, on 2 occasions, a pig’s valve. Quite remarkable really. But 2015 was to be my 4th and final open heart surgery.

So far so good.

I am really tired as I write this. I have has an amazingly productive and for me high energy day.

What a gift all these extra days and years have been. All my grand children have been born since I had the surgery. I have travelled over seas. Zipped around in this country. Gained significant insights to pain and patience. Become compassionate in ways that I doubt I could have grasped from any other experience.

I feel a deep and abiding gratitude. There are moments when I am still and reflect…when I look about me and wonder….

So…thanks to all of you who have been a part of this journey; to those of you who held my heart, or held my hand. And continue to do so in very many ways.

  1. One of my favorite things about you, besides the way that you express yourself and your beautiful photography, and your sharing nature, is your thankful, grateful heart. I’m glad those two valves are doing their job and I’m sure all the people who love you feel likewise…family, acquaintances and friends as well. You are loved and appreciated.

  2. For those that held my heart, or held my hand ….. love those words, Jane. Fear is real in these matters, very real. You and I have been the recipients of kindness and generosity from so many- the pure love of Christ really! Thank you for writing this. <3

  3. Happy re birthday, Jane…so many people never stop to think about the value of their life but you do. What a blessing you are to yourself and to others. 🙂

  4. What great thoughts you have had, and all your experiences. May you continue on in your life’s journey.

  5. Glad to have you in my life. I didn’t know you pre-surgery, so I’m glad I had the opportunity to meet you and call you my friend. Here’s to many more years.
